A little while ago, the publisher of my most recent book, A Fragile Thing, decided to close its doors. This was not easy for me, as it is something I have gone through before and I do find it upsetting but I’ve learned to be pragmatic and just get on with things.
With the rights returned to me and being allowed to keep the cover (created by Susan H. Roddey), I have been working on bringing it back into publication. (Note I did have offers but I decided that I wanted control of this book.)
The ebook is now available on Amazon and also via my own store. I wanted to ensure an alternative to those who don’t buy via Amazon, (and I know there are many).
Print is going to take just a little longer because I used the opportunity to add some additional internal design features (facing chapter art) AND I have included a bonus story in the paperback and hardback versions. I’ve ordered a proof today so hopefully I’ll be able to move the paperback forward soon.
The paperback is being created in Bookvault so again, there will be an alternative to Amazon and people will be able to buy direct from my Book Store. Bookvault is something I’ve wanted to try for a long time, so this looked like a good opportunity.

The bonus story is novelette Correctional which appears as part of the Darklings series:
‘In the poverty-stricken East End of London, it is hard to survive. Young Henry Collins is determined to escape and steals from Genesis Caul, a man whose demonic presence casts a shadow over the city as thick as the fog which cloaks it. Henry’s punishment is to first trawl the Thames for the body of a missing man, and then to serve a sentence on the infamous treadwheel in The Steel – the House of Correction in which his father is currently interred. When Caul offers him an alternative, he has to choose: between the life he had wanted to escape, or an eternity on the wheel.’

What’s happening with the hardback? Once I’ve seen the paperback, then I’m going to spend some time on the hardback. I wanted to see what Bookvault does at a standard level first before I try their special features (you can add ribbon and edging and all sorts of fancy things!). I know this might restrict where the hardback can appear but I’ve decided to take that hit.
I hope people will pick up either the ebook or other print copy – when available – and help bring back a book that has had more than its fair share of setbacks!
